Brebes Supports President’s 3 Million Homes Program for Low-Income Communities
Brebesku News - Brebes supports the President’s Three Million Homes Program for low-income communities (MBR) through concrete policies and cross-sector collaboration to provide decent housing.

BREBES, Indonesia - The government of Brebes regency in Central Java has pledged its support for President Joko Widodo’s Three Million Homes Programme, a national initiative aimed at providing affordable housing for low-income families.

The commitment was announced by Acting Brebes Regent Wurja during a public briefing at the regency hall on Thursday.

Housing, Wurja said, is a basic human need, alongside food and clothing.

“A home provides safety and dignity. This programme is intended to reduce Indonesia’s housing shortage,” he told the gathering.

The national scheme targets the construction of three million housing units, divided equally between urban, rural and coastal areas.

To support the programme, the central government is offering subsidised mortgages through the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP), along with tax incentives and streamlined licensing to make home ownership more accessible for low-income households.

Local economic impact

Wurja said the implementation of the programme in Brebes was expected to have a broader economic impact, including job creation and increased demand in the construction, transport and building materials sectors.

“This is not only about housing, but also about strengthening the local economy,” he said.

Measures by local authorities

The Brebes regency government has begun public outreach to raise awareness of the programme, while also working with banks and property developers. Coordination between local agencies has been strengthened to address data collection and licensing issues.

“We want to ensure fair access so that low-income residents can own decent homes,” Wurja said.

Housing data

According to Dani Asmoro, head of Brebes’ Housing and Settlement Agency, the regency currently has 44,139 housing units. Around 1,449 civil servants, contract teachers and temporary government workers are still without permanent housing.

Key measures include optimising public assets, expanding access to FLPP financing, applying mortgage regulations overseen by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and strengthening cooperation between local governments, banks and developers.

Brebes has already partnered with the Central Java provincial government and Bank Jateng to provide subsidised housing for civil servants.

Symbolic handover

During the event, several public school teachers and local government employees formally received housing units and signed mortgage agreements under Bank Jateng’s FLPP scheme.

The session concluded with discussions on implementation procedures, financing mechanisms and efforts to accelerate the construction of affordable housing across Brebes.
